Dotty Olson Community Pool Needs Your Help

Dive In: Securing the Future of the Dotty Olson Pool

The Friends of the Pool invite you to take the plunge with us as we kick off a crucial campaign to secure the future of our beloved community pool. We are launching an ambitious but vital effort to raise the estimated $1.5 million needed to resurface the pool, an infrastructure update that is absolutely essential for its continued operation.

The Scott Valley Dotty Olson Pool has been the cornerstone of our community for generations—a place where children learn to swim, families gather in the summer, and residents of all ages stay active and connected. The recent and heartbreaking closure of the City of Yreka's pool serves as a stark warning; without dedicated support for essential upkeep and timely maintenance, even the most cherished public amenities can be lost forever. We refuse to let our pool suffer the same fate. Your generosity this Giving Tuesday is not just a donation; it is a critical investment to prevent future disaster and ensure that our pool remains a source of health, recreation, and community connection for generations to come.

Please note that this critical fundraising campaign is separate from—and in addition to—our annual efforts to fund free swim days and operational costs. We must continue to raise funds for the pool's daily operations while simultaneously tackling this immense infrastructure need.

We face an urgent challenge: the pool surface, which is critical to the pool’s operation, must be replaced. This single project carries a daunting price tag of an estimated $1.5 million. We know that other rural city pools have struggled to survive this very same milestone. Without significant additional community support, the future of our pool is tragically at risk.

To meet this challenge head-on, The Friends of the Pool (a registered 501c3 non-profit) is launching the 1K Club—a giving circle dedicated to sustaining the pool through this critical milestone. Participants in the 1K Club pledge $3,000 (as a one-time gift or spread over three years) to directly support the upcoming liner replacement and other essential repairs.

When just 100 people join the 1K Club, we will demonstrate a strong and unified community commitment, which is essential for successfully requesting additional, major funding from partners such as the Ford Family Foundation and the McConnell Foundation. If 100 people participate, we will show community commitment and raise $300,000.

The Dotty Olson Pool is simply too important to lose. Your tax-deductible donation secures the pool’s future and helps us lead the way through this critical milestone. Thank you for making this vital campaign a success.

Together we can keep this a thriving asset for our community!
